History

Since 1985, Flatirons, Inc. has served Colorado as a premier provider of land surveying services. The company was founded through the acquisition of Robinson Engineering by John B. Guyton, who led the company until 2020. Under his leadership, Flatirons grew to 92 employees, with a focus on commercial and residential development in the Denver metro area, the oil and gas industry, the closure of the Rocky Flats site, and in providing surveys to local engineering firms. Following a significant slowdown during the 2007 recession, Flatirons diversified its services, evolving into the comprehensive surveying company it is today. One of Mr. Guyton’s long-term goals was to transition the company to an employee-owned model, which continues to this day.

Mr. Guyton believed that staying at the forefront of survey technology and innovation, and training and promoting from within, was key to our success. Beginning in 1985, Flatirons, Inc. was among the first surveying companies to use computer-aided drafting in Colorado. Today, we continue to stay at the cutting-edge, integrating technologies like LiDAR and photogrammetry with traditional survey methods.

In 2005, Flatirons, Inc. relocated its headquarters to 3825 Iris Avenue in Boulder, Colorado. Since then, additional offices have been opened in Longmont and Denver, enhancing the company’s ability to serve Colorado’s Front Range and surrounding areas. Currently, Flatirons offers a comprehensive range of surveying services to a wide variety of clients in both the public and private sectors. We work to be leaders in the surveying profession, carrying forth the traditions and values that have defined us since our inception.”
